The RTX 5080 sits just below the flagship in NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 50 lineup, with 10,752 CUDA cores, 16 GB of GDDR7 and a $999 launch MSRP. It’s built for high-refresh gaming at 4K with DLSS, and for very high frame rates on 1440p monitors, without the 575 W power draw and flagship price of the card above it.

Our build team breaks down the specs, what the card really delivers in games, how it compares with its neighbors, what it costs in 2026, and whether an RTX 5080 Super is worth waiting for.

RTX 5080 Specs at a Glance

The GeForce RTX 5080 launched on January 30, 2025 alongside the flagship, at a $999 US MSRP. Like every RTX 50 card it uses NVIDIA’s Blackwell architecture, with 5th-gen Tensor cores, 4th-gen RT cores and a PCIe 5.0 interface. These RTX 5080 specs come from NVIDIA’s official RTX 5080 page and GeForce compare page.

SpecGeForce RTX 5080

Boost clock2.62 GHz
Memory16 GB GDDR7, 256-bit
Memory bandwidth960 GB/s

Required system power850 W
Power connector16-pin PCIe Gen 5 (450 W or greater), or 3x 8-pin via adapter
Outputs3x DisplayPort 2.1b, 1x HDMI 2.1b

Two details stand out. At 2.62 GHz, the RTX 5080 boosts higher than both the flagship and the 5070 Ti, which partly offsets having half the flagship’s cores. And it keeps two NVENC encoders and two NVDEC decoders, so it’s a strong streaming and editing card, not just a gaming one.

What the 5080 Delivers in Games

We don’t publish made-up frame rates, so here’s what the hardware and NVIDIA’s own positioning tell you. NVIDIA’s performance charts for the RTX 5080 are run at 4K, max settings, with DLSS Super Resolution and Ray Reconstruction on. That’s the card’s intended home: 4K on a high-refresh monitor, with DLSS doing part of the work.

In practice, that breaks down like this:

  • 4K with DLSS: the sweet spot. Upscaling plus frame generation is how the RTX 5080 is designed to drive high-refresh 4K monitors in demanding games.
  • 4K native with path tracing: the hardest test for any GPU. Here the 5080 leans on DLSS more than the flagship does, and the 32 GB card has more headroom.
  • 1440p high refresh: NVIDIA benchmarks the smaller 5070 Ti at 1440p max settings, and this card has more of everything, so high-refresh play with ray tracing is well within range.
  • Esports: the CPU usually becomes the limit before this GPU does, so pair it with a fast gaming processor.

The honest limit is memory. NVIDIA benchmarks this 16 GB card at 4K max settings, so capacity works for today’s games, but the heaviest path-traced titles with max textures will push it hardest over the next few years. If you also run large local AI models or 8K video, the 32 GB card is the safer choice.

Where It Fits in the RTX 50 Lineup

Spec ratios are the most honest comparison without benchmark claims. Here’s the RTX 5080 between the flagship above it and the 5070 Ti below it.

Total graphics power575 W360 W300 W

Step up: the 5090 has about twice the cores and twice the memory for twice the launch price and 215 W more power. Our RTX 5080 vs 5090 comparison covers when that’s worth it.

Step down: the 5070 Ti keeps the same 16 GB and 256-bit bus, with about 83% of the CUDA cores, for $250 less at launch. That makes it the closest call in the lineup, and our 5080 vs 5070 Ti breakdown goes through it in detail.

The old flagship: on paper the RTX 4090 has about 52% more CUDA cores and 24 GB of memory, so the RTX 5080 is not a 4090 replacement in raw specs. What it adds is faster GDDR7, RTX 50-only Multi Frame Generation and DLSS 5, at 90 W less power.

DLSS 4, DLSS 4.5 and DLSS 5 Support

The RTX 5080 gets NVIDIA’s full RTX 50 feature set, including the parts that older cards don’t:

  • Multi Frame Generation arrived with DLSS 4 in January 2025 and runs only on RTX 50 cards. NVIDIA says it can generate up to five frames per rendered frame.
  • DLSS 4.5 added Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, also exclusive to RTX 50, and a second-gen transformer model for Super Resolution and Ray Reconstruction.
  • DLSS 5 launched on September 3, 2026 with NBA 2K27. It adds 3D-guided neural rendering and launched on RTX 50 cards only.

Keep frame generation in perspective. It makes motion smoother on a high-refresh monitor, but responsiveness still tracks the frames the GPU actually renders, so it works best on top of a solid base frame rate. Game support varies, and NVIDIA’s DLSS page lists current titles.

RTX 5080 Price in 2026

The RTX 5080 price at launch was $999 US MSRP. Partner cards with larger coolers and factory overclocks, from ASUS, MSI, GIGABYTE and Zotac, typically sit above that.

In 2026, a global DRAM and GDDR7 shortage driven by AI data-center demand has pushed graphics card street prices well above launch MSRP. We don’t quote street prices because they shift week to week; current pricing for every card is on our graphics card range.

Every GeForce RTX 5080 shares the same 10,752 CUDA cores and 16 GB of memory. When you pay more for a premium model, you’re paying for cooling, noise, clocks, size and looks, so choose the version that suits your case and your ears.

Should You Wait for an RTX 5080 Super?

NVIDIA has not announced an RTX 5080 Super, or any RTX 50 Super cards. Reports in 2026 say the refresh was delayed or put on hold because of the GDDR7 memory shortage, and there is no release date.

Our advice is simple: buy based on what exists today. If you need a new card now, waiting for an unannounced product during a memory shortage is a gamble with no end date. If your current GPU still runs your games well, there’s no harm in waiting, but don’t plan a build around rumored specs.

Power, Size and Build Tips

At 360 W, the RTX 5080 is far easier to live with than the flagship. NVIDIA lists 850 W of required system power, and the card takes one 16-pin PCIe Gen 5 cable rated 450 W or more, or three 8-pin cables through the included adapter.

  • Power supply: a quality 850 W unit is the baseline; 1,000 W gives extra headroom for a high-core-count CPU.
  • Size: NVIDIA’s Founders Edition is a two-slot card, but many partner models are larger, so check your case’s GPU clearance.
  • CPU: pair it with a fast gaming chip such as the Ryzen 7 9800X3D so the GPU isn’t held back at high refresh rates.
  • Memory: 32 GB of DDR5 is the standard for a new gaming PC in 2026.

RTX 5080 FAQ

Is the 5080 good for 4K?

Yes. NVIDIA tests the RTX 5080 at 4K max settings with DLSS, and that’s where it fits best: high-refresh 4K with upscaling and frame generation on. For native 4K with heavy path tracing, the 5090 has more headroom.

How much VRAM does the 5080 have?

It has 16 GB of GDDR7 on a 256-bit bus with 960 GB/s of bandwidth. That’s the same capacity as the 5070 Ti and half of the flagship’s 32 GB.

What PSU do I need for a 5080?

NVIDIA lists 850 W of required system power for the RTX 5080, with a 360 W total graphics power. A quality 850 W unit works; 1,000 W adds headroom.

Is there a 5080 Super yet?

No. NVIDIA has not announced an RTX 5080 Super, and 2026 reports say the RTX 50 Super refresh was delayed or put on hold because of the GDDR7 shortage. There’s no date, so buy based on cards that exist.

Is the 5080 worth it over the 5070 Ti?

It is if you game at 4K and want the extra 20% of CUDA cores and higher clocks. Both have 16 GB. At 1440p, the cheaper card is often the better value.

The Bottom Line

The RTX 5080 is the card for gamers who want high-refresh 4K with DLSS, top-tier 1440p, and NVIDIA’s full RTX 50 feature set, without the power draw and price of the flagship. Its one real compromise is 16 GB of memory, which matters most for path tracing at max textures and for big AI or 8K projects.
